SGT Randazzo and PFC Cooper selflessly gave their lives in the line of duty in combat on 20 February 1991. During the fist coalition forces ground combat mission into Iraq during Desert Storm, Cooper and Randazzo selflessly made the ultimate sacrifice. Their dedication to duty and unwavering courage in the face of the enemy will always be an inspiration to the soldiers of the 5th Cavalry and the 1st Cavalry Division.
